Recognizing Geisha Torres for her career in media and service to Philadelphia’s Latino Community. WHEREAS, Geisha Torres is a journalist based in Philadelphia and an immigrant who made a major career shift from being a national broadcaster back home in Venezuela to focusing on uplifting and supporting her new community in Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, Torres was born and raised in Venezuela and has worked in the broadcast news industry for over twenty years. Back home she was a sports reporter and anchor for Meridiano TV and a trailblazer as the first woman in her country serve as a play-by-play commentator for the NBA and anchor the most popular sports program in the country; and WHEREAS, Torres holds degrees in Business Organization from Simon Bolivar University, Business Administration from Santa Maria University, Voice and Diction from Central University of Venezuela, and Journalism from Santa Rosa Catholic University, respectively. She began her career in broadcast journalism before receiving her final degree and received the Mara de Oro Award for Best Young Female Sports Journalist in TV in 2002; and WHEREAS, When she immigrated to America she diversified her range and began to cover all news at local and national levels with the goal of supporting her communities through coverage that shed light on contributions from Latinos in the City of Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, Torres works every day to help Philadelphia’s Latino community by focusing her reporting on opportunities a…
