Celebrating Lunar New Year in the City of Philadelphia. WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most significant holidays celebrated by millions of people around the world, symbolizing the beginning of the lunar year; and WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia proudly embraces its diverse population and recognizes the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering unity, understanding, and appreciation among its residents; and WHEREAS, The Asian American community in Philadelphia has made significant contributions to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of our City, enriching our neighborhoods and enhancing our collective identity; and WHEREAS, The festivities surrounding the Lunar New Year, including vibrant parades, traditional lion and dragon dances, culinary delights, and family gatherings, provide opportunities for residents and visitors alike to experience and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the many communities that celebrate Lunar New Year; and WHEREAS, Saturday, February 10, 2024, will mark the beginning of the “Year of the Dragon”; and WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia acknowledges the importance of recognizing and honoring the traditions and customs of all its residents, including those who celebrate Lunar New Year, as part of its commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and cultural appreciation throughout the City; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, hereby hon…
