Calling on Philadelphia residents to register to vote before the upcoming Election deadline of Monday, October 21st. WHEREAS, Both major Party candidates have a focus on the influential swing state of Pennsylvania and in Philadelphia specifically; and WHEREAS, Philadelphians of every demographic and particular interest can have their voices heard and their needs represented through electoral engagement; and WHEREAS, Over a million Philadelphians are currently registered to vote in the upcoming Election according to Department of State data; and WHEREAS, Half a million Philadelphians are not registered to vote, relinquishing their voice in the democratic process; and WHEREAS, Registering to vote is necessary to vote, but registered votes must still complete their ballot by mail or in person by November 5th, 2024; and WHEREAS, In addition to the high-profile Presidential race, Philadelphians will vote for members of Congress, statewide row offices, State Representatives and State Senators; and WHEREAS, Representative democracy is most successful when citizens are engaged and participate in the democratic process; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby calls on the people of the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection to register to vote before the upcoming Election deadline of Monday, October 21st.
