Recognizing October as Black Male Educators Month in the City of Philadelphia and recognizing the Center for Black Educator Development’s dedication to the recruitment, development, and retention of Black male educators in schools. WHEREAS, The Center for Black Male Educator Development bolsters the Black male educator pipeline and works to influence Philadelphia High School students towards careers in education. The Center makes sure that the recruitment and retention of Black male educators sees growth in the City of Philadelphia and across the nation; and WHEREAS, The Black Male Educators’ Convening was first hosted by the Center for Black Male Educator Development here in Philadelphia in 2015; and WHEREAS, Additionally, the Center for Black Male Educator Development successfully advocated for addressing Pennsylvania’s outdated and now changed funding formula, which historically has underfunded urban school districts like Philadelphia’s; and WHEREAS, The Center for Black Male Educator Development supports Black male educators as well as students looking to get into education careers by addressing crucial issues in Black pedagogy, access, and theory through a variety of mechanisms; and WHEREAS, In November, the Center for Black Educator Development continues the important tradition of supporting Black men in education, hosting the 7th annual National Black Men in Education Convening on November 21st through 23rd, 2024 in Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it; RESOLVED, BY THE…
