Recognizing and congratulating Olney High School teacher Luz Marcela Alva de la Rosa for being honored with the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation’s Award for Distinguished Teachers. WHEREAS, The Lindback Award for Distinguished Teachers recognizes sixty educators from the School District of Philadelphia each year. The award celebrates teachers who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and beyond by promoting transformative learning and changing the lives of the youngest Philadelphians; and WHEREAS, Ms. Luz was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. At the age of 17, she moved with her family to the United States with the simple goal of learning and growing. She bravely navigated the challenges of learning a new language and adapting to a different culture and environment. She completed her high school education at Eau Gallie High School in Florida; and WHEREAS, She is a proud graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, with a degree in Special Education and a minor in Spanish. She is a dedicated Spanish teacher at Olney High School in the 9th Councilmanic District; and WHEREAS, Ms. Luz is one of sixty teachers in Philadelphia this year who have been recognized by the Lindback Foundation for her exceptional work in transforming the lives of students in Olney.
