Recognizing and honoring prominent public servants during Hispanic Heritage Month, who contribute to the health and economic wellness of Philadelphians. .WHEREAS, The health and wealth of Philadelphia should be reflected in the quality of life of all of its citizens. The individuals honored by this legislative body strive to create a City and a society in which the needs of the body have been fulfilled and addressed; and WHEREAS, These individuals ask not how much, but how good, their services and actions can serve the people. Their work seeks to increase quality of life, raising the health and economic wellness of Philadelphians through what they do; and WHEREAS, Philadelphia is a City of great promise and challenge, in which some of us may enjoy good lives, but far too many remain trapped by poverty and inequality; and WHEREAS, We honor Alba Martinez, who leads the charge in changing the ways we shape commerce in our City. Martinez has developed the Grow Philly Strategic Roadmap, aimed at streamlining business processes, driving inclusive growth, revitalizing commercial corridors, and positioning Philadelphia as a global business hub with a skilled, performance-driven workforce; and WHEREAS, Her nonprofit and government work include leading the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, where she introduced a results-driven funding model, and as Philadelphia’s Commissioner of Human Services, where she reduced the number of children in foster care by 50%, while DHS also began …
