Honoring and recognizing The 8 Seconds Rodeo as a celebration of black rodeo culture and advancing cultural tradition in the City of Philadelphia. WHEREAS, The 8 Seconds Rodeo has rapidly grown into a renowned sensation since its founding in 2023 by Ivan McClellan; and WHEREAS, It is an exhilarating evening of sport, culture, and community through competitive rodeo events; and WHEREAS, Elite Black rodeo athletes compete in bull riding, bareback bronco riding, and barrel racing, continuing the proud legacy of Black cowboying; and WHEREAS, The competition enables generations of cowgirls and cowboys to continue their family legacy in rodeoing and compete at the highest level; and WHEREAS, The 8 Seconds Rodeo confronts and disrupts conventional historical narratives about the American West by elevating both the modern and historical legacy of Black cowboys and cowgirls; and WHEREAS, The Rodeo’s partnership with the Philadelphia Urban Riding Academy reflects its commitment to local equestrian heritage, youth development, and community impact; and WHEREAS, The 8 Seconds Rodeo brings a unique Western experience to the City of Philadelphia for its residents and youth to enjoy; and WHEREAS, It inspires future generations of young cowboys and cowgirls and captivates an ever growing audience with its thrilling event; and WHEREAS, The 8 Seconds Rodeo will be making an appearance in Philadelphia on October 11th, 2025 at the Liacouras Center; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL …
