Honoring and congratulating Jeffrey W. Thompson on his appointment as Fire Commissioner by Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. WHEREAS, Jeffrey W. Thompson is a native Philadelphian, raised in Germantown, and attended Murrell Dobbins Tech High School; and WHEREAS, He pursued higher education at Penn State University and earned a B.S. in Emergency Management from Thomas Jefferson University; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Thompson joined the Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) in 1989 as a member of Cadet Class 162; and WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished 35-year career, he has held numerous positions within the department, including Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, Executive Chief, Special Investigations Officer, Deputy Fire Commissioner, and 1st Deputy Fire Commissioner; and WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Fire Department has always been a significant part of Commissioner Thompson's life, following in the footsteps of his father, who retired as a firefighter in 1988 after 25 years of dedicated service; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Thompson will succeed Acting Commissioner Craig Murphy, overseeing more than 3,000 firefighters and medics, making up one of the City’s largest agencies; and WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia stands ready to support Commissioner Thompson’s initiatives and to work collaboratively to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and congratulates Fire Co…
